Concerts and Films Friday, Mermaid Parade Saturday

Friday: Amadou & Miriam+Bombino, 7:30 p.m. Prospect Park Bandshell 9th St. & Prospect Park W.  Free fireworks show in Coney Island every Friday from through August 30th. For the best seating, locate yourself on the boardwalk or beach between West 10th Street and West 15th Street. Also join as they turn on all 8,000 lights on the Parachute Jump on Friday night, June 21 at 8:30 one site said and another said 9:30PM just before the first free fireworks Boardwalk W, near W. 17th Street.

Hudson River Park’s Pier 45 music 7pm at Christopher St. At 7pm featuring Max Gallico & ILana Martin. Concert every hour 12 to 7pm.             Films on the Green: “French Cancan” 8:30 pm. In French with English subtitles and free. Washington Square Arch (in Washington Square Park), Manhattan. Haiti Cultural Exchange with Mizik Ayiti. Free, 3 pm. Saturday: Mermaid Parade is the most under dressed parade. It has a Mardi Gras atmo. $100, 000 was raised due to funds going to Hurricane Sandy to keep the parade. The nation’s largest art claims to have more than 150,000 New York City artists are scheduled to showcase colorful (and barely-there) costumes, motorized floats, antique cars, and moving art pieces. Last year’s crowd reached a record 750,000 spectators. Parade starts at 1pm West 21 St. and Surf Ave. to West 10th Street. It will be hard to  cross Surf Avenue except maybe 21 Street and by the Aquarium. Parade might go to the boardwalk where the crowds are smaller.   Right afterwards there is a ceremony in the ocean and a party boat 6pm – 11pm. 21 and over.  There usually is a ball check at
