Weekend Events

Saturday: Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m. It is free, exciting skills event for boys and girls (7-14 years old).  Where participants have the opportunity to compete in four levels of competition including Team Championship events at all 30 Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the MLB All-Star Game.  Children showcase their skills in pitching, hitting and running. Ideas City: The New Museum—in partnership with New York University, Cooper Union, The Architectural League and dozens of other organizations—held the first Festival of Ideas for the New City in May 2011 and returns with a lineup of keynote speakers, symposiums and workshops, art fairs, live music and special events, renamed Ideas City, in and around the Bowery. newmuseum.org

Off Broadway Awards:  The Awards recognize excellence in Off Broadway by honoring the invaluable contribution of artists to the theater community. It features live performances from outstanding Off-Broadway talent, presenters and several surprises. Public tickets will be available at the Skirball Center’s Box Office. lortelaward.com.

Sunday: Hillel Fashion Show $15 jrv.org.ill/eng_index.htm, TD Five Boro Bike Tour 6:30 a.m. is America’s largest cycling event. The event provides participants the unique and fun experience to bike through all five boroughs – a 40 mile, traffic-free ride for 32,000 cyclists. Proceeds from the event fund Bike New York’s education programs. Registration is conducted on a first come, first served basis, and is required. Sunday:  Court Street Festival 12-6pm of 10 blocks and 200 vendors between Union Street and West 9th Street.

African Festival 2-8pm. Afrodesiac Worldwide Show of Calabar Imports 708 Franklin Avenue, Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

Challenge of Champions 8 a.m. This epic martial arts tournament gives participants ages 6 to 17 the chance to compete for free. Face opponents of all levels in Karate, Kung Fu and Tae Kwon Do in one of five martial arts rings. Meet Jadi Tention, world champion martial arts fighter, who is considered to be one of the best fighters in the world. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Safety gear required: head, feet, chest, cup and mouthpiece. Al Oerter Recreation Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, 131-40 Fowler Avenue, Queens.

Cinco de Mayo Festival 10 a.m.–6 p.m. There will be live music, dancing, food and giveaways.  This event is packed with fun for all ages. Festival Site in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens. Event is located at the Festival Site behind the Queens Theatre in the Park.

Irish Dance Festival: join in the fun with live music, workshops in traditional Irish dance for all skill levels, a singer’s circle, Irish language classes, face-painting, children’s craft table and more.  1-7 p.m. Pier I at 70th St. Riverside South
