Due to the severe wind, rain, and flooding conditions expected from Hurricane Sandy, as well as the shutdown of the New York and New Jersey transit systems, Brooklyn College has canceled day and evening classes as well as all other activities beginning at 4:00 p.m. today and continuing through Monday, Oct. 29. Emergency and essential personnel should contact their immediate supervisor for instructions; non-essential employees are not required to report to work. A decision to close on Tuesday, Oct. 30, will be made based on storm conditions. We are monitoring the storm closely and will post any updates to this location. Evacuation Centers go to nyc.gov Hillel at 5:15pm announced they will be one but you must call first. (718) 859-1151. As you might know hurricane Sandy is scheduled to hit our area tonight. Mayor Bloomberg and the NYC office of emergency management have ordered mandatory evacuations for certain NYC neighborhoods. If you live in Zone “A” area or low lying area you must evacuate. If you have to evacuate and need a place to stay you may come to Hillel with your family. We strongly urge you to get to Hillel before 7pm. Remember, trains will stop working at 7pm and buses at 9pm. You should bring sleeping bags or blanket and pillows to sleep here. We will remain open until you are allowed to return home. Please come prepared and bring anything you might need to sleep here. We will keep a limited supply of water and food but we encourage you to bring your own supplies.
